HEALTHY LIVING

The majority of us make one of the biggest mistakes in this life and that is neglecting our health which has a lot to do with either a busy lifestyle, laziness, stress or what we chose to make time for. A healthy lifestyle has always been recommended since we was born. It is still recommended today for obvious reasons like chronic diseases which are the leading cause of deaths and disability in the United States. Our normal diet should consist of healthy food sources. We should also be physically active starting from 3-5 years of age. Due to neglecting a healthy fit lifestyle, obesity is another chronic condition that has become a worldwide problem. Understand that some chronic diseases can be prevented and are manageable through healthy living.

You have to ask yourself if you would rather be on the gym floor or on a hospital floor? Better yet, on vacation enjoying the good life or in the hospital trying to save it. Naturally we have become accustomed to eating a certain way for generations due to our environment or how we were raised. It seems all is good until health complications arise and then some of us assume it is hereditary. You have to ask yourself is the chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, asthma and obesity an absolute guarantee due to your family history or is it the diet that your family has been eating for generations the issue? If you chose to eat healthy and be consistent with physical activity, do you think you would be diagnosed with the chronic diseases that you assume to be hereditary? Most likely not. It is unfortunate that some people are diagnosed with chronic diseases that’s beyond their control. However, the majority of us can control what we consume on a daily basis.

Do not wait until the last minute to preserve your life because it can possibly be too late. Now, I am not saying you cannot enjoy life. You can have your cake and eat healthy too but in moderation. Create balance for yourself not excuses. You have one life to live and you should make your life number one on your priority list. The most important health decision to make for yourself is a healthy diet and a healthy living guide. The 80//20 rule is an everyday guide you can follow which is eating healthy foods 80% of the time and having your favorite treat with the other 20%. For the 80% part of the plan, drink water and consume nutritious food like lean meats, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Another guide you can follow is eating healthy from Monday through Friday or Sunday through Thursday and then leave the option open during the weekend to have what you may crave. You can go out to eat with a significant other, friends or family. Keep in mind that healthy eating also boosts immunity, strengthens bones, keeps skin, teeth, and eyes healthy, supports muscles growth and more importantly assist with longevity of life.

The second most important health decision is being active with physical activity or exercise. Physical activity has health benefits in combination with a healthy diet. It can reduce the risk of cancer, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, prevent weight gain or assist with maintaining weight loss, improves mood, boost energy, promotes better sleeping habits and can enhance your intimate life as well. Physical activity like exercise or playing sports on a regular basis can improve your quality of life overall along with a healthy diet PERIOD. The minimum amount of exercise per week is 2-3 times for at least thirty mins. If you want to see quicker results, you want to build up to 4-5 times a week for about one hour. Remember a healthy diet and exercise go hand and hand. If you want feel good inside and out, you will need to do both to be the best healthy version of yourself. At the end of the day you are what you eat so exercise will not prevent chronic diseases if you have a bad diet.
