I Ascend: Please share with us a little bit about who Latrice Pace is.
Latrice: Latrice Pace is a creative being. I like to describe myself like that because I am not just one thing. I do not just do one thing. It is just whatever I choose to put my mind to at that moment. That is who I am. On Monday, I am Latrice the Baker, on Tuesday, Latrice the Actress, Wednesday, Latrice the Vocalist. Thursday and Friday just know I am evolving and creating daily. That is who Latrice Pace is.
I Ascend: What was your first experience coming from a musical family that made you want to grab the microphone?
Latrice: My first experience, didn’t make me want to grab the microphone. I initially didn’t think I could do that. I would say what made me finally grab the microphone was when I was LaShun’s understudy in the Tyler Perry play, “I Know I’ve Been Changed.” That was the first musical experience that made me want to do this and made me believe that I could do this.
I Ascend: What has been one of the biggest highlights of your career?
Latrice: One of the biggest highlights in my career to date was probably embodying the role of Sealy in “The Color Purple,” A local theater here, cast me as Sealy. Being able to tell that story and perform those songs was such a spiritual experience. In addition to being stretched and having an amazing growth experience. That has been my highlight to date and I am looking forward to so much more.
I Ascend: What has the process of becoming been like for you on this journey?
Latrice: The process of becoming has been a complete and total trust and reliance on God, knowing that I am not able to become in my own strength and in my own ability. With His help and guidance, showing me how He sees me and not looking at how I see myself I am pulling back layers, like a metamorphosis. I am a caterpillar coming out of the cocoon becoming a butterfly.
I Ascend: What hardships have you faced in Ascending to where you are currently?
Latrice: Accepting loss, not totally understanding loss, but accepting it and using it as a seal for what’s to come. Not being startled by it even though you may have your moments where you are. I know I cannot stay there and have figured out a way to use loss and grief towards becoming a better me as a way of honoring those that you’re missing and you’ve lost.
I Ascend: What was one of Mom and Dad’s, nurturing processes for each of you that still sticks?
Latrice: There’s one thing for certain in the household with daddy, you didn’t sleep beyond twelve noon. Actually, you didn’t sleep beyond ten in the morning. (Light chuckle) Everyone went to Sunday school and was in the choir. Those were a given even if you were on summer vacation. It innately became a part of what we do. If you were sleeping in the afternoon then you must have really been sick.
I Ascend: What have these experiences taught you?
Latrice: That change is inevitable and although it is inevitable, we are not dealing with changes alone, God is there. The Holy Spirit is there even though we may feel lonely at times. God is not taking me through anything because I am being punished or it was something I didn’t do. It is not about our works God loves us. Change is inevitable and knowing that change is bringing about growth, maturity, and complete dependency on God. That is what it has taught me.
I Ascend: Congratulations on Ascending and Standing in your Truth and Pursuing your Destiny. What do you want people to remember most about you?
Latrice: The love that they feel and see. I don’t know why that’s making me emotional. But if they don’t feel love and see love from you, they’re not encountering God. If they are not encountering God then who am I representing? I want them to remember they felt love, they always saw love and encountered God.
I Ascend: What was your experience like working with Tyler Perry in “Madea’s Witness Protection” and some of his other productions?
Latrice: The experience was amazing. It is always a pleasure to work with Tyler because he is just a kind person. I enjoyed “Madea’s Witness Protection” but the one that I enjoyed the most was when I was featured in his production of What’s Done in The Dark.” You can actually find that on Amazon or Netflix. I played the character Nurse Nancy. That was another highlight in my career, just being on a videotape where people can see your work over and over at their leisure.
I Ascend: What word of advice would you give to our readers to have them continue to Ascend in pursuit of their dreams, no matter where they are?
Latrice: Obey God no matter what. When God told me to do what he told me to do. I did not know how I was going to financially do it. At the time I did not even have the songs, I did not have anything. We literally started with a blank piece of paper. As I sought Him about how he wanted me to do it, and how he wanted me to present the music, I asked God, for music that establishes his sound through me. I encourage everybody, if God has given you something to do, take a moment and seek Him about how he wants you to do it. Do not be afraid if you do not have the capital or the connections it will all come as you make that step of faith to trust Him and be obedient without delaying. The pieces will come together as you make each step.
I Ascend: Please share what you are currently working on and how readers can continue to follow and stay abreast of all that you’re doing.
Latrice: Sure, I have a book titled “At Your Own Pace: Creating a Life of Consistency” and it is currently available on Amazon. It’s about my weight loss journey because it has definitely been a journey. There have been some highs, there have been some lows, and some plateaus. In addition to everything that I am learning along the way. My new EP is called “Exodus, The Journey of Obedience Volume II.” We recorded the entire thing in 2017 and released part of it in 2019. Taking those steps of faith, because we could only afford half then and then taking a pause when the rest was provided. We are now releasing the other half which is coming out now with Volume II because of our journey of obedience to God. It is a lifelong journey, it is never finished. Then I have Treecie Treats Cupcakery Bakery which was established in 2011 when my late sister, Duranice gave me her red velvet recipe. I just found out that, we will be on “Dessert Wars” in Atlanta in October and I am so excited about that. I just wrapped up another Musical Production called “Passing Strange.” My website is www.LatricePace.com and visiting will connect you to all of my social media, music, merchandise, and all things Latrice Pace.
